Simply connect it to the dock connector and open the EyeTV Mobile app (available on the App Store). It would appear that Elgato probably understand that kind of thinking as they are about to release a new EyeTV device for the iPad 2, the EyeTV Mobile.ĮyeTV Mobile is made specifically for your iPad 2. ![]() What did put me off was the fact that it was another battery powered device that would require charging. It has a small extendable antenna that receives the DTT (Freeview, or DVB-T) signal. Tivizen transmits the TV signal over to your iPad, iPhone, Mac, or PC wirelessly by joining your home Wi-Fi network or, when that is not available, by creating its own Wi-Fi hotspot. I did quite like the idea behind the Tivizen EyeTV device.Įlgato’s powerful Tivizen device is small enough to slip into your pocket and take anywhere you go. If you don’t have wifi or have poor 3G (and a data limit) watching TV on the iPad. Of course all these options for using the iPad really depend on either, being at home, or using a wifi connection. I can then either watch these on the iPad or using AirPlay put it on the TV through the Apple TV. My second option is to use the EyeTV app on the iPhone or the iPad that can access live TV and my recordings from the iMac. Using Elgato’s h.264 Turbo HD hardware and software the conversion process is quite quick. I now use two options, I encode the recordings for iPad, EyeTV then adds it to iTunes, I can then stream it through the Apple TV. I use to use the excellent EyeHome to stream recorded video content to my TV, however the PSU failed and the software was never updated, so in the end I needed an alternative. If you're a Mac-having TV addict who isn't already outfitted with a TiVo and a Slingbox, the Elgato EyeTV HD may be just the solution for taking your favorite shows on the go.I have been a fan of Elgato’s EyeTV devices for years now. The same app can be used to dive into your recording schedule and make changes. By installing the optional EyeTV app ($4.99), users can stream live TV or any of their recordings over the Internet from their computers using Wi-Fi or 3G. The killer feature, though, is that iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch users never really need to sync to their computers to transfer their recorded content. Recordings are made in the h.264 video format with a maximum resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels at 30 frames per second. Thanks to hardware acceleration, the EyeTV HD can simultaneously encode two versions of any incoming video: one optimized for HD playback on your Mac, iPad, or Apple TV and a smaller file for use with an iPhone or iPod. Unfortunately, scheduled recording of over-the-air transmissions is a no-go. A plug-in IR blaster communicates between your EyeTV and your cable box to tune in the appropriate channel when a show is ready to rip. The EyeTV HD comes with recording schedule software powered by TV Guide. ![]()
